What’s the most unusual card you’ve ever seen in a gift shop?

Recently we’ve started stocking “Happy Birthday from the Dog” cards, a surprisingly popular request (We have Cat cards too so your feline friend won’t be left out but no Rabbit cards, sorry Molly and Pedro, the shop’s bunnies).

How about “Congratulations on your Divorce” cards .Too soon? Most people now are happy to celebrate a separation. Showing your support with a gigglesome card. One of the strengths of the British character is the ability to laugh at ourselves, especially in the more different times. Same sex marriage is now common and the traditional bride and groom pictures just wouldn’t work. Maybe your local area celebrates an event unique to itself: The festivals, well dressings and scarecrow displays that pop up around the country just begging for a bespoke card.

We live in a multi culture, modern world meaning that our card ranges have to keep up with the times. We should look to our local area and listen to the requests we get. Taking note of the character and characters of our villages. The local sayings we hear everyday (who hasn’t been called Cock in Yorkshire). In fact we’ll have a new blog on this very subject coming soon.

At Wishes we’re careful with the cards we select to stock. All the cards are hand picked by Jools our shop’s owner for quality and value. She likes to see the actual cards too, so she can get a feel of the card stock (only the best make it into the shop). With years of experience there really is no one better than our Jools for picking just the right card. Still we’re always amazed by the cards requests we’re asked for but as a small shop and we just don’t have the room for the more obscure designs (we do try though).

That’s why we’re so excited by our new addition to the shop: Creation Express. We can now print personalised cards and gifts in the shop with your photos and words. Use your favourite Instagram or Facebook photo and then add your own caption to suit. Any photo from your phone can be used and we have some great fun backgrounds/borders too. It really does mean that we can make you a card for any occasion without any limits. Opening up a whole new world of endless possibilities. Maybe Molly and Pedro can get their card after all!
